Imphal, April 17 2022:
The Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT) complex located at Khuman Lampak, which was inaugurated by former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, is in a poor state in the absence of adequate attention from the side of state government.
After its inauguration in 2011, the complex remained dysfunctional due to various reasons which include developing of large cracks in the passengers' platform and building following a strong earthquake.
After repairing, the complex became operational from November 2016.However, failure on the part of the government to execute routine maintenance has left the complex in a dire state.
The sunken ground and multiple potholes have become a major issue of waterlogging even when there is a slight rainfall.
Source said that the blacktopped ground of the complex was damaged substantially during the Covid-19 pandemic after the government used the complex for parking heavy good trucks for quarantine purpose.
Passenger bus operators are refusing to use the facility as entering it often causes the vehicles to develop mechanical snags including broken springs.
As a result, buses are parking on the roadside of North AOC thereby causing traffic congestions.
The source further said that some PWD officials had assessed condition of the complex about a month ago for taking up repair works.
However, no steps for repairing have been taken up till date, it added.
