Setting February 8 as the deadline for revocation of the suspension order of six principals and two teachers of Government Higher Secondary Schools who have been suspended from service on alleged charge of failing to participate in the Republic Day celebration, student community has warned of launching intense agitation from the following day if the Government fails to meet the demand.
Submitting a memorandum to the Chief Minister in this regard today, All Manipur Joint Government Higher Secondary Students' Union also demanded that the cases framed against the principals/teachers should also be withdrawn within February 8 .
Questioning which teacher would like to become principal if the Government is going to take up such strong action, the memorandum categorically stated that the hapless teachers/principals should not be made the scapegoats and student community would not like to see their teachers being harassed unduly.
While appealing to the teachers and principals who are under suspension to come to their respective schools and continue to perform their normal duties, in the memorandum, the student body also urged all the social organisations to help in the cause of the student community.
Addressing a press conference at the office of AMSU Headquarters here this afternoon after submission of the memorandum jointly with the representatives of the student unions of Ram Lal Paul Higher Secondary School, Ibotonsana Higher Secondary School, TG Higher Secondary School, Model Higher Secondary School, CC Higher Secondary School and Johnstone Higher Secondary School, general secretary of All Manipur Joint Higher Secondary Students' Union Ningthoujam Surchand informed that after a joint meeting with Education Minister L Jayantakumar, the memorandum was submitted to the CM through him.
During the course of the meeting, the Education Minister had also given his assurance on implementing the demands of he students, Surchand added.
In case the as are not fulfilled by February 8, the student community would join hand with other social organisations in launching intense agitation against the Government, he warned.
