Along with Health and Family Welfare Minister Ph Parijat inaugurating a newly constructed building of a Primary Health Centre at Sawombung which is the meeting point of three Assembly segments of Khundrakpam, Khurai and Lamlai, the health centre has been up graded to a mini hospital to ensure round the clock service.
As of now the mini hospital which would be able to cater to the medical needs of around 3,700 people has facilities for OPD, minor operation, labour room and laboratory.
It is said that monetary benefits to 114 pregnant mothers of BPL family background have been provided under Janani Suraksha Yojana from this health centre.
Speaking as chief guest of the inaugural of the PHC building and upgradation to mini hospital, Parijat pointed out that though there is the proposal of setting up one 50-bedded hospitals in all the districts of the State, there is some problem with regard to Imphal West and East as there is already RIMS Hospital and JN Hospital in these two districts.
So the Primary Health Centre which could provide round the clock service has been set up at Sawombung.
The Health Minister also assured that in case of difficulty with regard to lack of infrastructure and adequate doctors in looking after the medical needs of the patients coming to the health centreby its current staff of 23 including four doctors everything would be taken care of under the National Rural Health Mission.
While urging the people to avail the medical facilities being provided at the health centre, the Minister also appealed to the people co-operation in ensuring smooth operation of the health centre.
