The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), state unit, the partner of the ruling Secular Progressive Front (SFP) in Manipur today in its general body meeting has resolved to extend full support to the candidate sponsored by the Congress in the upcoming Lok Sabha election which is likely to come up between April and May.
The general body meeting of the RJD has decided to extend support to the Congress candidate in the inner seat of the Lak Sabha of the state as the party is a partner in the UPA government at the centre even though leaders of the SPF government here did not share its ministerial berth to them.
However, for outer Parliamentary seat, the party has formed an Assessment Committee to look into the matter which the RJD would extend support, the decision of the committee will be final, the president of the RJD state unit, Md Hellaluddin said after the general body concluded today.
The decision taken in the general body meeting held at its office at Bapuppara will be intimated to the leader of the party at the Centre, he said.
He also assured that RJD will continue as partner of the SPF government in the state till the expiry of the term of the present government in 2012 .
The general body also elected, H Lokhon, Ngursanglur, Thangkhloun Haokip, K Ningthemjao and Y Ibomcha as vice-president apart from appointing N Ibohal Meetei as general secretary.
Sh Yaiphaba, Tingkhonei Haokip, H Badankumar and Thomas Panmei were also appointed as general secretary and Th Surjit, RK Ibechoubi Devi, O Yaimabi and S Roji Devi were also elected as secretaries of the state unit.
On the other hand, a 38 member delegation of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee led by its general secretary has left Imphal for New Deli to participate in the National Convention of the party to be held from February 8, a source from the Congress office said.
