VA opposes Shirui National Park plan

Imphal, September 20 2022: Shirui Village Authority (SVA) Ukhrul has raised objection to the declaration of Shirui National Park and demanded that the order be revoked.

In a memorandum addressed to the Chief Secretary on September 15, Shirui Ato headman Wungchangam Shangh and Shirui Aze headman AW Khavangpam stated that the during the half yearly Shirui Village Assembly held on September 10, the whole village gathered to reiterate its long standing and resolute position against the proposed Shirui National Park.

Therefore, it demanded that all notifications and publications related to declaration of Shirui as national park should be recalled and nullified at the earliest.

If no action comes forth from the side of Forest Department, the village will take up necessary course of action to ensure that the decision of the people of Shirui is honoured, it said.
