Thoubal observes World Suicide Prevention Day

Thoubal, September 20 2022:
District Mental Health Programme of District Health Society under National Health Mission, Thoubal organised observance of World Suicide Prevention Day at Heirok Community Health Centre on Tuesday.
As chief guest of the observance, Thoubal deputy commissioner A Subhash Singh observed that children and adolescents nowadays are burdened with immense pressure from their parents on education and advised the parents to avoid putting pressure on their children as it would lead to depression and other mental problems.
Such pressure will also adversely affect the personality of the child when they grow up and reach adulthood, he cautioned and stressed on the need to enable the children play, socialise and mingle with friends and people in the neighborhood.
Speaking at the function Thoubal CMO Dr Y Nokul noted that suicide is becoming a big health concern in the state as is evident from increasing cases of suicide attempt.
In order to avoid such cases, various programmes of mental health are being organised, he said and appealed to the youth and parents to reach out and take the help of medical professionals.
It may be mentioned that World Suicide Prevention Day is observed every year on September 10.The theme of this year's observance is "Creating Hope through Action" .
The programme was also attended by Heirok CHC MO in-charge Dr Aarti Sougaijam and Heirok Higher Secondary School principal Th Nimai as presidium members.
