Imphal, February 09 2022:
Moreh Pastors' Fellowship on Wednesday appealed to the Election Commission of India (ECI) to reschedule the date of the first phase of election to another day citing religious reasons.
An appeal statement by the fellowship chairman Rev Ngauham Touthang and general secretary Rev KK Hahao Gangte urged the Commission to consider rescheduling the polling day of first phase to any other convenient day other than Sunday, so that every citizen can enjoy the right to vote as granted by secular Indian Constitution to all its citizens.
The fellowship maintained that Sunday as polling day for Christians is unfortunate and uncalled for.
"This tantamount to restriction of one's franchise of Christians for whom Sunday is a sacred day", said the statement.
It also urged the ECI to give due respect to the religious sentiments of all the communities.
