Online legal awareness prog organised

District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Tamenglong under the aegis of Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) organised an online legal awareness programme on the topic of 'Sponsorship of Children under The Juvenile (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015' on Wednesday.
The programme was attended by PLVs, members of JJB Tamenglong and Noney, chairpersons of CWC Tamenglong and Noney, and members of NGOs, women organisations and Church leaders.
Delivering the key note speech, District and Sessions Judge Imphal West A Guneshwar informed that under the aforementioned Act, protection of children is categorised into two-Child in conflict with law, and child in need of care and protection.
Children staying in child care institutions are provided sponsorship under this Act, he added.
Speaking as a resource person, Department of Social Welfare programme officer (SCPS) Mala Lisam informed that sponsorship is given under the JJ Act, 2015 with the objective of ensuring care for the children and providing them protection in a holistic manner.
It is also meant to help the children in continuation of their education.
Additionally, the assistance provided by ICPS include sponsorship fee and setting up a foster care fund to dispose DCPU.
Under this scheme, Rs 10 lakh is given to the districts every year, she conveyed.
She continued: "A Sponsorship and Foster Care Approval Committee (SFCAC) is to be set up in each district for reviewing and sanctioning the sponsorship.
The Committee will hear cases every month and dispose the same within 3 months.
The members of the Committee will comprise District Child Protection officer as chairperson, while Protection officer (non-institutional care), CWC, and one representative each of SAA and voluntary organisations involved in children protection shall be members".
The programme officer also explained on how to avail the scheme and what benefits are being provided for the children.
