MPP made Patriots' Day state function: Gitajen

Remembering the day on which Manipuri heroes, Bir Tikendrajit and Thangal General were hanged till death by the British, Manipur People's Party (MPP) observed the 30th Patriots' Day at its office here on Friday.
Speaking at the event, MPP president L Krishna-das declared names of seven candidates of the party for the forthcoming state assembly election and said that the party will fight the election while following the path of the brave forefathers.
The seven candidates are its working president Md Abdul Malalib for Moirang AC, Chingtam Luwang for Sagolband AC, vice-president Dr S Ibomcha for Sugnu AC, Nongmaithem Imocha for Kumbi AC, Ngangbam Jayananda for Singjamei AC, general secretary (political affairs) Oi-nam Goldflag for Konthoujam AC, and chairman A Balena for Andro AC.
The names of the seven candidates were declared for the first phase and others will be declared in phase manner, he said.
Expressing belief that the party can form the next government like in 1972, 1974 and 1990, he appealed to the people of the state to support the party in the forthcoming state assembly election.
MPP general secretary Gitajen Meitei said that it has been at the forefront of fighting various issues of the state.
It is a gift of the MPP government that the state is now observing Patriots' Day as a state function and state holiday.
He called upon the people to join hands in bringing about a new Manipur.
Apart from offering floral tributes to the portraits of the patriots, the party leaders, members as well as the seven candidates later offered prayer to Ibudhou Thangjing, Wangbren, Marjing, Koubru and Ibudhou Pakhangba at Kangla.
