Imphal, May 25 2022:
A public meeting was held at Awang Wabagai community hall on Wednesday, in connection with the hit-and-run incident that took place at Awang Potsangbam Khullen Lamkhai on May 22.During the meeting, JAC convenor Phijam Priyokumar recounted that on the said day an unidentified vehicle hit and killed Pukhrambam Samson of Awang Wabagai while one T Inao sustained injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at Raj Medicity.
As neither the driver nor the vehicle involved in the incident has been arrested or seized till date, the JAC made preparations to stage protests but was interrupted by Lamsang AC MLA S Rajen on Wednesday.
He (MLA) conveyed that there have been some leads in the case as to the identity of the driver and vehicle and as such, appealed to the JAC not to stage protests, to which the JAC responded positively.
Informing that the representatives of the JAC would be meeting with the CM on Thursday with regard to the incident, Priyokumar said that demands would be made for the arrest of the person(s) involved and seizure of the vehicle as well.
He then urged for repairing the accident-prone Koirengei-Leikinthabi IVR road, along with installations of street lamps so as to prevent repeat of such incidents in the future.
Samson's body will not be claimed until the above demands are fulfilled by the authority concerned, he cautioned.
