Imphal, May 25 2022:
While stating that the post mortem report of goldsmith Arambam Nanao of Sagolband Kangbam Leikai, who died on May 2 after being allegedly tortured by one SI Jitendra, has not been provided till date; the JAC formed in connection with the death has demanded the authority concerned to make the post mortem report public within 5 days so as to facilitate further investigation.
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club here on Wednesday afternoon, JAC advisor L Memma said that the government has been loudly proclaiming that the law-and-order situation in the state has improved.
However, Nanao's death after alleged torture by police is condemnable.
Attempts are being made to cover up the incident by spreading rumours that Nanao committed suicide, which is false.
Thus, the government should make Nanao's post mortem report public within the next 5 days and also, sentence the alleged accused SI Jitendra to life imprisonment or death by hang ing, she demanded.
Meanwhile, Nanao s widow Teresa alleged that her husband was brutally beaten up at the police station and then brought back to their house, wherein he was again beaten up in front of the family members.
She then strongly denied the claim that her husband committed suicide by consuming poison and demanded the authority concerned to provide the post mortem report at the earliest.
