Imphal, May 25 2022:
All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), Manipur State Committee has expressed elation on presentation of the Global Health Leaders' Award 2022 by World Health Organisation (WHO) to ASHA workers of the country in recognition of their role in delivering healthcare services at the grassroots level.
In a statement, the Committee said that more than 10 lakh ASHA workers have been playing major role in delivering healthcare services at the grassroots level and WHO is presenting the award as a mark of recognition of their services during the Covid-19 pandemic.
While alleging that the government has been ignoring these ASHA workers for a long time, the statement pointed out that AITUC demanded a minimum of Rs 18,000 monthly honorarium for ASHA workers but they are being paid only Rs 2000 per month.
Some states had increased their honorarium to Rs 10,000 but there is no such policy in sight in the state, the Committee maintained, while urging the government to consider the demand.
