Seven held with drugs from different locations

Imphal, May 25 2022:
Security agencies including police, commando and Assam Rifles apprehended six individuals with recovered large consignment of drugs from two different locations on Tuesday.
Acting on reliable information about movement of drugs, a combined security team led by Sugnu PS OC inspector B Lunthang Vaiphei and SI Th Robinson Meitei, Sugnu CD SI P Kiran and women police conducted surveillance in Sugnu Wapokpi area.
Around 4.30 pm, the police team tried to stop a Santro car (MN02G 0437), but it fled.
The police team pursued and after more than 30 minutes of hot pursuit, the car was seen entering a residence in Wapokpi area.
Police cordoned the suspected residential area and the car was found parked at the residence of one Wangkhem Sarkar Meitei of Wapokpi Chingol Leikai.
Police conducted search in the presence of the additional SP (LO) and two civilian witnesses, during which 22 green coloured soap cases containing suspected heroin weighing 193 grams excluding the weight of soap cases were recovered from under the foot pads of the car.
The drugs were seized and Wangkhem Sarkar (47) son of late Th Maimu, owner of the house, arrested.
In another incident, teams of special commando unit and 43 AR and Chakpikarong PS Chandel led by SI Bungson Koko Anal of Chakpikarong PS, subedar L Bebekananda OC of special commando Unit Khabeisoi were conducting joint patrolling along the Indo-Myanmar border to thwart illegal infiltration and drug smuggling.
One of the columns passed information regarding movement of drugs in a Shaktiman truck.
However, the truck bypassed the joint patrol party via an alternate route, following which backup parties were alerted and placed near Chakpikarong.
The backup party consisting of Chakpikarong PS personnel and special commando personnel stopped the truck.
The occupants of the truck identified themselves as Seitinthang Haokip (22), son of late Thangkhongam Haokip of Molcham village Chandel district; Ngamminlun Guite (25), son of Tonminthang Guite; Seiminlun Guite (24), son of Themsei Guite; Seiminlal Guite (16), son of Yangkhomang Guite all of Yangoubung village, Tengnoupal district, and Doukhosei Mate (35), son of Holkhothang Mate of Champol village, Chandel district.
Upon checking the vehicle, the police team found 186 soap cases containing suspected brown sugar worth around Rs 4,54,60,000 hidden under the back of the seats along with Rs 49,620 in cash.
They were arrested and the drugs, cash, truck and five mobile phones were also seized at 6 pm.
The arrested people along with the seized items were handed over to Chakpikarong PS where a case has been registered against them.
In another case, Chassad Battalion of IGAR (South) seized 52 gram brown sugar worth Rs 1 lakh in Kamjong district on Tuesday.
In a release, PRO IGAR (S) informed that troops of Assam Rifles intercepted a drug peddler near Indo-Myanmar border in Kamjong district and recovered 52 grams of brown sugar and Burmese currency from his possession.
The recovered items along with the drug peddler have been handed over to Chassad Police Station for further investigation.
