MIT impasse : MU governing body removes Principal-in-charge

MIT Principal in-charge Th Kullachandra who has been in the thick of controversy after students of the institute launched a sustained agitation charging him of several malpractices has been removed and replaced by another.
An official source informed that Manipur University governing body meeting was scheduled on October 9 but it was pre-poned today on account of the prevailing issue of MIT.
The meeting which began at 3 pm and went on till 5.30 pm was presided by Vice Chancellor Prof HNK.
After deliberating threadbare on the issue of MIT, it was decided to remove Kullachandra from the post of Principal in-charge and replace him with MU Dean of Students Welfare and Professor of Chemistry Department RK Hemkumar as a temporary arrangement.

The meeting further resolved to institute an enquiry against Th Kullachandra with regard to charges levelled against him by MIT students.
Although it was agreed that one retired Government officer would head the enquiry team, the official source refused to name the retired officer.
The enquiry committee would examine financial administration and development activities during the period 2011-2013 .
Life span of the enquiry committee which would suggest corrective measures as well as measures to avoid similar lapses and anomalies, in case any such faults are detected is one month.
Another agenda which figured prominently in the meeting was the question of nominating heads of MIT's different departments after every three years on rotation.
