CSOs pay homage to Nupi Lan bravehearts

The Nupi Lan Numit Observation Committee observed the 82nd Nupi Lan Day at JN Manipur Dance Academy, today.
AMKIL, Kanglamei, Poirei Leimarol, CHITUWA, AMAWOVA, Nupi Samaj, Tammi Chingmi, MEPWAK and NYLAK are members of the observation committee.
At the function, the gatherings offered floral tributes to the photos of those brave mothers who took part in the Nupi Lan.
Speaking at the function, convenor of the observation committee Lourembam Nganbi said that women of Manipur have been playing key roles in various fields including politics, economy and others.
Saying that the valour of Manipuri women are well known and the same was exhibited during the two Nupi Lan, she added that the contribution of women in the society is profound.

The women of Manipur are at the forefront in demanding the removal of AFSPA, Nganbi said and recalled the nude protest of 2004 which paved the way for removal of Assam Rifles from Kangla Fort and disturbed area status from seven Assembly segments.
Despite their immeasurable contributions to the society, some elements continue to challenge the women, she rued and urged the people of Manipur to collectively face all issues that are plaguing the State such as gender based violence.
Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur vice president S Memcha, Kanglamei president Y Leirik Leima, Nupi Samaj president Thokchom Ramani Leima, CHITUWA president Maibam Purnimashi Leima, Kabui Mothers Association president G Atongpi Kameipui, All Manipur Muslim Women Development Organisation president Aribam Sitara Begum and Protection and Preservation Committee Manipur convenor Maibam Bisheshwor also attended the programme.
