Imphal, December 12 2021:
The 82nd Nupi Lan observation was held across the State organised by different organisations and local clubs to commemorate the Nupi Lan of 1904 and 1939 .
Speaking at Nupi Lan observation held at Kwakeithel Lamdong Community Hall, AMUCO president Ph Nando Luwang said the courage and focus of the womenfolks of the State have been misguided after Manipur joined the Indian Union in 1949.He alleged the politicians for not giving the women the respect they deserve and for utilising them as a means or weapon in their election to further their political motives.
He also alleged that the intending candidates in most constituencies does not care about the womenfolks or the sacrifice made by women as none of them are seen mobilising their workers and supporters to observe 'Nupi Lan'.
The programme was jointly organised by Brightway Club, Kwakeithel Lamdong, Lamdong Chaokhat Thourang Lup and Lamdong Leikai Yaipha Thourang Nisha Bandh Nupi Marup.
Uripok Nupi Apunba Lup (UNAL) also organised the 4th Nupi Lan Ningshing Lamjel today as a part of Nupi Lan observation.
The race was flagged off from Kangla and flagged in at Naoremthong Epathoukok Shanglen.
Paonam Indira Devi, Saikhom Bidishini Devi and Wakabam Ronika bagged 1st, 2nd and 3rd position out of the 72 women who participated in the race, said a statement issued by the UNAL.
The participants also paid floral tributes to the portraits of women who gave their life in two Nupi Lan.
Both the Nupi Lan were fought by women against monopoly by capitalist in order to safeguard the interest of the indigenous people of the State, these is clearly shows that the womenfolks of that time were highly informed and knowledgeable despite being not getting proper education, added the statement.
UNAL also stretched on the need for a leader who can unify the people of the State as there is an increasing lack of trust between different communities of the State and it would be impossible for a small state like Manipur to survive the huge economic challenges brought by the geo-political shift in the 21st century.
The All Manipur Democratic Women's Association (AMDWA) also observed the 82nd Nupi Lan memorial at Paona Bazar Nambul Mapal today.
United Manipur Muslim Women's Development Organisation and Rotary Club of Imphal also organised Nupi Lan at Manipur Press Club and Nawa Poirei Nawakol respectively.
Rotary Club Imphal also donated mattress, winter clothes and edible items to Poirei Nawakol, Achanbigei in collaboration with M/s Blue Bell Fashiona and Nishant Agarwal.
In another instance, Nawa Marup reached out to the Ideal Blind School for Children, Takyel and handed out food items, groceries, books etc to the students of the school as a part of its Annual Charity Programme, 2021 annually observed on Nupi Lan.
