Imphal, July 05 2021:
United Women Rights Defenders (UWRD) urged the Chief Minister to remove the chairperson of Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) immediately from the post for her incompetent conduct.
In a press release, UWRD expressed resentment to observe the activities of Manipur State Commission for Women under the incompetent chairperson.
Stating that many have been urging to remove her from the post since 2019 and UWRD said that it seemed more relevant after the recent order of High Court of Manipur suspending the proceedings of complaint case no 42 of 2021 MSCW.
UWRD maintained that the chairperson is not acting as per the rule of law but exercising the power beyond the guiding principles laid down under the Manipur State Commission for Women, Act 2006 .
The Commission was established to work for the welfare of women however the incumbent chairperson worked against the welfare of women of the State as observed in few instances.
Recalling the incident of December 2019 which incited outburst through many social media posts, news and other online campaigns against her after a video footage went viral where a team of MSCW led by the chairperson forced a woman to sign a 'Deed of Separation' and on another matter, a signature campaign was carried out to terminate her from the post which was submitted to the Chief Minister of the State which is yet to be actualised.
Therefore UWRD urged the Government to remove the chairperson of Manipur State Commission for Women at the earliest as per the provisions of Manipur State Commission for Women, Act 2006 which empowers the State Government to remove a sitting chairperson of MSCW.
