Thoubal, June 01 2020:
Contending that the services provided inside the quarantine centre of Waikhom Mani Girls College, Thoubal are very sloppy, many inmates came out of the quarantine centre after breaking open the main gate of the college this afternoon.
The inmates contended that they would rather stay under home quarantine.
Even though there was an uproar for some time, it subsided after the arrival of District Surveillance Officer Dr Trusty and top officers of Thoubal District Police.
Later, they went inside the quarantine centre.
One inmate said that the quarantine centre is full of shortfalls.
There are no enough sanitisers, masks etc.
Even though one inmate of the quarantine centre had been tested positive for COVID-19, all the inmates still share toilets and bathrooms, he said.
Although it has been more than nine days since samples were collected from the inmates, the results have not been provided till date.
The matter was apprised to the Thoubal DC and the Thoubal SP but their response was rather lukewarm, he continued.
He said that they decided to stay in home quarantine considering the many risks they face in the quarantine centre run by Thoubal district administration.
However, Dr Trusty said that the inmates were unhappy for not re-testing them.
There is a Government guideline which says that if any inmate tests positive for COVID-19, all other inmates of the particular quarantine centre should be re-tested after five days, Dr Trusty said.
One inmate of Waikhom Mani Girls College quarantine centre tested positive for COVID-19 on May 28 .
As such, it has been already scheduled to re-test all the other inmates tomorrow.
The uproar seen today was a result of misunderstanding.
Nonetheless, all the inmates would be definitely re-tested tomorrow, said the District Surveillance Officer.
Notably, 33 people who returned from Delhi are being quarantined in the college campus.
