Moreh, May 30 2014 :
Demanding that authorities concerned honour its nine-point charter of demand within June 3, Labourers' Union 82 RCC Moreh Platoon cautioned that failure to evoke positive response would compel the Union to intensify its ongoing ceasework agitation by enforcing general strike on the Moreh-Imphal section of National Highway from the next day (June 4) .
Since April 1 the Union has been on ceasework strike in pursuit of various demands including transfer of RB Chaubey, the Officer in-charge of 25th BRTF 82-RCC Moreh Platoon, hol- ding the officer responsible for the current agitation.
The other demands include immediate revision of pay-scale of the RCC Platoon's work-force in sync with the 2013 pay revision; revoke discharge order of labourers; payment of salary/wage on 30th of every month; fixation of payday and observe the same as holiday; non-enforcement of new CLP forms; provision for medical treatment facilities to CLPs; accidental compensation to CLPs, personnel permanently impaired while on duty; and relevant facility for medical treatment at any hospital BRTF.
Speaking to The sangai Express, union president Seithong Haokip said indifferent attitude of the 25 BRTF CO constrained the Union to decide on enforcing the general strike on June 4 in case the current impasse is not settled amicably within the specified date.
Despite Union members ceasing work since April 1 the BRTF authorities are yet to take any initiative to resolve the matter, alleged the president who also sought cooperation of all the people settled in the border town to the Union's decision to intensify the ongoing agitation.
Insisting that lack of positive action will only lead to more intense agitation, Seithong said those involved in essential services would be exempted from the purview of the agitation.
It may be mentioned that besides cessation of various construction activities in the border area, suspected agitation supporters had plunged a BRTF truck into a river on April 19 .
