At least one army personnel has been killed in a bomb attack carried out by suspected militants at interior Theigothang village under Singhat sub-division close to Myanmar border in Churachandpur district.
According to a source, troops of Madras Regiment were patrolling on foot when they were attacked by the militants using bombs and automatic rifles.
One Havildar identified as G Mohankumar (41) from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu was hit by a splinter on the neck.
Even as he was airlifted to the military hospital of 57 Mountain Division, Leima-khong in a helicopter, he succumbed to the injuries.
Post mortem was conducted at RIMS following which due arrangements were made to send the body to his native town tomorrow.
Later troops of Madras Regiment conducted extensive search operation at the encounter site.
25 Madras Regiment was posted recently in the area as replacement for 1/11 Gorkha Rifles.
