Although elected representatives from Saitu Assembly Constituency have gone on to become Ministers in the SPF Government, there has been no proper road and bridges or even an Anganwadi centre in the Constituency, MLA Haokholet Kipgen has lamented.
Speaking as chief guest at the occasion of inaugurating the newly developed Twibul ground at Kangchup this afternoon, the MLA expressed desire for taking up lots of developmental activities in the Constituency with the co-operation of the public.
Stating that Saitu Assembly Constituency is one such Constituency where largest number of communities reside together peacefully, the MLA recalled that at one time there was some communal tension in Kangchup area.
But peace was restored after a peace mission was carried out jointly by an official team including himself and media.
On developmental activities, the MLA informed the gathering that after around four years of lobbying, Rs 32 crores has been earmarked for the development of Kangchup-Haochong road.
The development of the road is to be completed in five years.
Another amount of Rs 14 crores has also been earmarked for development of the road from Keithelmanbi and Kuraopokpi and construction of the road from Kangchup to Irang has begun.
The MLA appealed to the contractor concerned to ensure maintenance of the quality in taking up construction works.
He also pointed out that development of Kangchup area would not be possible with the efforts of the MLA and MDC members alone without the contribution and co-operation of the people.
MDC member of Kangchup Constituency SK Vaiphei and MDC member of Bungte Chiru Constituency Tuingam Thanga were also present at the occasion as functional president and guest of honour respectively.
The inaugural function of the ground was held under the aegis of Kangchup Area Tribal Organisation.
