NE UG outfits call for R-Day boycott

Major underground groups of the North East region, including the umbrella Manipur People's Liberation Front, MPLF of Manipur have called for a boycott of this year's Republic Day by imposing 16.30 hour on the same day.
A joint solidarity e-mail statement was issued by the Kamatapur Liberation Organization (KLO), the MPLF, Tripura People`s Democratic Front (TPDF) and the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) with regard to the imposition of a general strike from 1 am to 5.30 pm on January 26 as part of the boycott to the Republic Day of the country on Wednesday.
The general strike will cover all forms of transportation and movement of all kinds of vehicles, all forms of entertainments including cinema shows and all activities of trade and commerce.
However, the media, medical services and religious occasions shall be kept outside the purview of the general strike.
"We call upon all the freedom loving peoples as well as patriotic organizations of the region to support and observe the general strike," the statement added.
The statement observed "India's Republic Day which is celebrated on January 26 every year is the day Indian constitution is imposed on the People's of this region so as to legalize their colonial occupation of the region.
The Indian colonial regime while trying to suppress, has degraded the lives of our people by trampling even the basic human right - the right to life, under the boots of Indian Occupational Forces".
The joint statement further alleged that under this "alien constitution" instead of safeguarding the lives of our people, it has created every sort of problems to undermine the basic unity of the region by fragmenting the region on ethnic lines as a part of their colonial policy of "Divide and Rule" so that the Indian Colonial rule could not be uprooted from our region for the past 61 year.
Although a few of their leaders were captured, from within and aboard of the region and fell into their hands Indian military campaign could never be succeed to suppress the legitimate liberation struggles of the people.
"We will fight to the last to regain our legitimate sovereignty and independence," it added.
It also reminded people not to forget that under the "Indian Colonial Occupation" the future for all the peoples of this region is doomed.
"We have to fight Indian Colonial Rule to regain our sovereignty and Independence so that we can survive and exist with dignity as a distinct people.
This fight against India is the only means for our survival".
