Imphal, January 22, 2011:
All the polling stations for the by-election to the Konthoujam Assembly constituency scheduled to be held on February 14 would be guarded by central para military forces, informed a source.
On the other hand, the Imphal West SP and the Police Headquarters have been directed to ascertain the number of security personnel that would be required for sensitive and hyper sensitive polling stations.
As per instructions of the Election Commission of India, instead of State forces, central para military forces would be deployed in all the 28 polling stations of Konthoujam A/C on the day of polling.
Along with issuance of election notification for the by-poll yesterday, the Election Commission has directed that the candidates should not spend more than Rs 5 lakhs on the by-poll.
Konthoujam A/C remains unrepresented in the Manipur Legislative Assembly since the demise of Speaker Dr Sapam Budhichandra on September 30 last year.
The constituency has 24,601 voters including 12,125 males and 12,476 females.
Though January 28 has been fixed as the last date for filing nomination papers, no candidates have filed nomination papers till date.
