A hand grenade exploded while three other bombs have been disposed off safely in four separate incidents that took place at Imphal East and West districts today.
The hand grenade went off at around 2:10 pm at the Top Khongnangkhong Maning Leikai residence of Sericulture Department Director Kakchingtabam Thaibema as the house was attacked by unidentified miscreants.
The grenade landed on the CI sheet roofed kitchen of the Director.
Apart from damaging the roof badly, the explosion damaged an almirah and utensils placed inside the kitchen.
The Director was not in her residence when the incident took place.
Sericulture Minister L Jayantakumar, MANITRON Chairman Kh Ratankumar, IG (LO) - III V Jathang and Imphal East SP Th Radheshyam visited residence of the Director after the incident.
Without mentioning the name of the outfit, Thaibema said that an UG group made monetary demand from the Sericulture Project funded by Japan Bank of International Corporation.
Speaking to reporters Minister Jayantakumar said that the first phase of the project had been completed in March last year, while paper works for the implementation of second phase are in progress.
The Minister said that it is unfortunate to attack officials instead of asking them to implement the second phase in a proper way.
Another bomb exploded at the residence of Asem Kumarjit, an Executive Engineer of LDA at Liwa Road, Oinam Leikai today at about 9.30 pm.
A little girl fainted on hearing the loud explosion and was rushed to hospital.
Meanwhile, a patrol party of 88 Battalion BSF detected an IED at Nongren foothills under Lamlai police station today.
Police said, the same has been disposed off at around 10:30 am by the explosive experts of the Central paramilitary force at near the area.
In another incident, unidentified persons lobbed a Chinese hand grenade at the residence of former Zilla Parishad Member Mohammad Abdul (52) at Urup Mayai Leikai at around 9 am today.
Police disposed off the bomb at a safer place at around 11:30 am.
In yet another incident, miscreants hurled a hand grenade at Shanti Hospital, Lamphel Sanakeithel at around 7 pm this evening.
However, the grenade did not explode and was retrieved by police.
