Imphal EAst District SP, Th Radheshyam has affirmed that the media and the police have a never-ending tie.
He was speaking at a function held today at the Manipur Press Club here to celebrate the 35th foundation day of the All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU).
The celebration function was graced by ex-president of AMWJU, K Modhumangol, and former AMWJU president AK Sanaton as the chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
The function was presided over by AMWJU president Sagolsem Hemanta.
Chief guest of the function, K Modhumangol noted that the level of standard of newspaper publication in the state has seen a quantum leap with the use of latest technology.
Fondly recollecting the days when newspapers were processed through outdated technology, Madhumangol also briefly accounted the history of AMWJU and Manipur Press Club.
Conveying his desire to let the editors strictly edit the language employed and used in newspapers, Madhumangol also exhorted the journalists to be more sincere and committed towards their profession.
Speaking on the occasion, AK Sanaton noted the sufferings of journalists of the state amidst threats from all sides.
He said journalists should have integrity and work with sincerity and commitment.
President of AMWJU, S Hemanta said AMWJU has completed the preparation of welfare fund for journalists of the state.
A committee has been set up for effective implementation of the fund.
Hemanta also conveyed that the Chief Minister has assured to extend possible help in allocating welfare fund of the journos.
The AMWJU president thanked the assistance extended by Shija Hospitals, Langol to journalists.
He announced that AMWJU is organising a workshop for journalists on human trafficking and photo journalists in October.
A rural reporting programme is also on the card.
Imphal East district SP, Th Radheshyam, who attended the function as special invitee, noted the roles played by media � the fourth estate in democracy � in its attempt to lead the society towards the right path.
Saying that the media and the police have a never-ending tie, there would be no development in the state if the people could not appreciate their respective roles.
He said the media has a great role to play in preserving the confidence of the people.
Prof Y Mohen, Medical Superintendent of RIMS, said in developed world, the status of media is held in high esteem.
But here, journalists have been working under severe threats and pressures from both the state and non-state actors.
This deserves strong condemnation from all quarters.
The celebration function was also attended by Dr Kh Palin, chairman of SHRI, SSP of Imphal West L Kailun, and noted journalists of the state.
