International Ozone Day was held today at Churachand Higher Secondary School with the theme 'Universal Participation: Ozone Protection Unified World'.
The observance function was organised by the Manipur Pollution Control Board.
Chairman of Manipur Pollution Control Board and MLA, E Dwijamani attended the function as the chief guest.
Principal of CC Higher Secondary School, Y Nongallei presided over the function while MLA Th Lokeshore attended the function as the guest of honour.
The resource persons were G Tomba Sharma, principal of DM College of Science; Prof B Manihar Sharma of MU Life Science department; and Prof S Dorendrajit of MU Physic department.
elivering his speech, MPCB Chairman E Dwijamani said, the international ozone day has been observed since 1995 in an attempt to protect the depleting ozone layer � which protects the ultraviolet ray.
However, the observance in India began only in 2007. Stressing on the need to protect the ozone layer, E Dwijamani urged all concerned to contribute in protecting the ozone layer as well as the environment without waiting for the Manipur Pollution Control Board.
MLA Th Lokeshore said Manipur is a fertile land with calm environment.
Lately, the temperature condition has changed.
He appealed the teachers to teach the students on environmental protection with enthusiasm.
