Imphal, September 16, 2009:
Urging the people to continue with the public agitation against the July 23 incident, the JAC Against the Killing of Ch Sanjit has appealed to all local clubs and organisations to ensure that no unnecessary entertainment programmes are lined up in connection with the coming festivals such as Vishwakarma Puja, Durga Puja etc.
In a statement, the JAC urged all concerned not to organise entertainment programmes, tambolas, songs, cinemas and dramas etc.
Stating that the people should not forget that the time is right to put a stop to all the countless number of fake encounters and custodial killings, the JAC urged the people continue with the agitation without any let up.
It is the SPF Government which has been defiling democracy by trying to silence the voice of protest, said JAC and questioned whether detaining people under NSA for raising their voice is democratic practice or not.
The recent accolades showered on the DGP by the Prime Minister is a clear indication of the Centre using the police commandos as pawns to fulfil their ends.
Coming out strongly against the alleged attempt to silence the parents of Ch Sanjit through monetary promises, the JAC said that for too long the Government has been silencing the voice of the people with money and promises of Government's jobs that now their game is up.
Such tactics will not work any longer, it asserted.
