Imphal, September 16, 2009:
In an intensified move to bring grass-root level democracy to the Manipur hill districts the Indigenous Democratic Front (IDF) is determined to carry out more drastic and sterner phase of agitation if the Government of Manipur fails to announce the date to hold the elections in the next two/three days.
The IDF said this with a cautioning tone while reiterating its demand to announce the date for conducting elections to the Autonomous District Councils (ADC) "since there is no other reason for the Government of Manipur to delay it further".
Speaking to Newmai News Network, IDF president Ngachonmi Chamroy stated that justice delayed is justice denied, and stipulated that the Government of Manipur should announce the date for ADC elections within two/three days timefailing which IDF has decided to enter its 'third phase' of agitation which will have 'adverse bearing on the administration of the State'.
The cry for release of pending salaries from March 2009 and other demands of the All Manipur Hill Districts Councils Teachers' Association, the pending case of the DPC fiasco of 835 ADC teachers appointed in 2006 and the proposed new DPC for fresh recruitment, the demand for reservation of 3 percent quota by All Tribal Disable Union Manipur in regard to Government recruitment of posts and other related problems can be solved only when full fledged ADCs are installed in the hill districts including Sadar Hills, stated the IDF president.
It would, therefore, be in the greater interest of all if the government announces the date of Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections without resorting to further delaying tactics, added N Chamroy.
