Imphal, February 11 2013:
Peeved over the alleged negligence of Maipakpi Maternity and Child Hospital in conducting caesarian section of a woman, the family of the patient is set to sue
the hospital.
In a press conference held at Manipur Press Club today, the patient's father Lairenlakpam Yaiskul said that his daughter Moirangthem Ongbi Omila (30) of Leimakhong Mapan has developed two holes at the area where she was operated upon.
The woman was admitted at the hospital for child birth on December 16 last year.
As the medical staff of the hospital informed the patient party about some complications, caesarian section was conducted on her the same day and the woman was blessed with a healthy baby boy.
Omila was discharged from the hospital on December 20 .
However, as the caesarian section area was bleeding and she started experiencing intense abdomen pain and headache, Omila was again admitted at the hospital on December 25 .
Although, the medical staff of the hospital insisted for another operation, the patient party was not ready for it as the patient was too weak.
On January 7 this year, Omila was discharged from the hospital after she was kept under medical observation for some days.
However, Omila's trouble did not end there.
She could not even breast feed her baby as her abdomen was persistently paining and often bleeding.
After a few days, a lump was detected developing in her abdomen.
Worried family brought Omila to the hospital for another round of check-up.
However, hospital staff told her family that the problem was minor and nothing would happen.
As the condition of the patient becoming deteriorating day by day, her family admitted Omila at RIMS Hospital on February 4 .
Although, various tests have been conducted on the patient, the exact problem could not be ascertained so far.
The patient party complained the matter at Maipakpi Hospital, upon which the hospital authority insisted the patient party to settle the matter by refunding the amount of Rs 40,000 which was spent in Omila's treatment at the private hospital.
Irked with such proposal, the patient party has decided to sue the private hospital as well complain the matter to the Indian Medical Council, Indian Medical Association, Union Health Ministry and State Health Department.
