Imphal, February 11 2013:
Following news report about the proposed meeting between GoI representatives and UNC to be held at Senapati on Feb 12, the Kuki Movement for Human Rights has reiterated its stand to the Union Home Minister that the Kuki people would never accept any political talks or settlement the Govt of India reaches with the UNC in any circumstance before the peaceful settlement of 900 innocent Kukis killed, 360 villages uprooted and 100,000 innocent Kukis displaced by the NSCN (IM) as a result of UNC's Quit Notice.
"The Kuki leaders have been observing closely the steps taken by the Government of India towards the tribal people living in the NE and reiterated its stance once again to the GoI to settle first the innocent Kukis killed by the NSCN (IM) as a result of the Quit Notice served by the UNC, Manipur," KUMHUR stated in an open letter addressed to the Union Home Minister, Sushil Kumar Shinde.
"If the present Government keeps dividing and talking with one ethnic group in isolation while leaving the other ethnic groups behind, the KUMHUR fears it will not be for peace but to incite communal war between the communities living in the State and the possible agreement made will be taken in support of UNC's Quit Notice that claimed so many innocent lives and caused other numerous damages," the KUMHUR letter signed by its Chairman, T Lunkim stated.
It also pointed out that more than 60 memoranda have been submitted to the four outgoing PMs and to the incumbent Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.
It reminded that the tribal people are neighbours and living in peaceful coexistence from time immemorial under the past Governments.
