Free heart treatment for BPL card holders at Sky Hospital from March

Free heart diseases treatment will also be available at Sky Hospital and Research Centre from March this year.
Disclosing this, hospital chairman Dr Lairikyengbam Shyamkishore told The Sangai Express in an exclusive interview that the hospital would also open its branches at all the district headquarters of the State soon.
The chairman who is the only Manipuri Consultant Cardiologist said that out of 23013 total patients given treatment in his hospital from 2008 to February 10 this year, 70 per cent of the patients were heart patients.
In view of the alarming rise in the number of heart patients, he set up the hospital in Manipur after he had given treatment to a number of patients and supervised training to medical practisioners in London, Shyamkishore said.
So far, Sky Hospital and Research Centre has succesfully treated patients not only from different parts of Manipur but also from Cachar, Assam, Hojai, Mizoram, Aizwal, Nagaland, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan and Myanmar, he added.
Like in western countries, Shyamkishore also suggested the people of the State to have prior heart check-up before they face any major complications.
Once a thorough check-up is conducted a person can live without any worry for five years.
However, it is a must to scan the condition of heart for every five years, Shyamkishore said.
Regarding different types of heart diseases, Shyamkishore said that perforated hearts in children, weakning of heart valve among youths below 25 years and high blood pressure in persons above 40 years are the major heart ailments.
Apart from its centre at RIMS Road, the hospital is also planning to open a new centre at JNIMS gate from March this year, he said.
Facilities for treatment in gynae, orthopaedic, surgery, medicine, cardiology, pathology and ENT etc are also being provided in the hospital which currently has 40 beds, he said.
Dr Lairikyengbam Shyamkishore became the first Manipuri Super Heart Speacilist when he obtained Post-doctoral Degree (DM) in Cardiology from AIIMS, New Delhi in 1988 .
He became a Doctorate of Medicine (MD) in 1983 .
Shyamkishore also became the first and only Manipuri Consultant Cardiologist (top clinical position) in Bristish Government's National Health Service.
From May 2008 to January 2011 he served as the Head of Clinical Governance for Cardiology Department in BHR University Hospitals, London, one of the largest hospitals of England having 1500 beds.
