Adult Python killed in Ukhrul

In a rare catch of its kind in the district in the last three decades an adult Python was killed and brought to Ukhrul by the hunters in the morning here today.
The python was informed to have been killed by the hunters in between Shangshak and Shokvao village around 33 kilometres from the district headquarters in the morning at around 6 .
Members of the hunters party said that they suddenly came across a huge python while they were out hunting.
A bullet killed the reptile on the spot.
No reptile this big has been seen in the area since the last thirty years, they said.
According to the hunters the Tangkhul Hao of the olden days used to count and measure the Pythons according to the number of noses of the snake with one nose indicating a year year and so on so.
Today's catch, according to this method, was supposed to be 8 years old.

The Python measured 13.2 feet in length while its breadth measured 20 inches and weighed 45 kgs.
The Tangkhul Hao in olden days considered Python fat, bones, gall bladder and skin as having medicinal properties, useful in the treatment of skin diseases, piles etc.
Its bones can be used to treat toothache.
At Ukhrul bazar the price of the meat fetched around Rs 200 per 250 grams, they informed.
The gall bladder which is in high demand can fetch anything between Rs 35,000 and 40,0000 while the skin cost Rs 15,000 or more.
