Imphal, September 07 2011:
The power producing khuga Project which was recently handed over to the public by the SPF government after it was left unfinished for the last 20 years, instead of producing power has been using solar power for its illumination.
In spite of it's commitment to produce 1.5 mega watt of power, all works to produce power has come to standstill.
This is because of the fact that the water received under this project is not in a condition to produce any amount of power, clarified N Biren, Minister IFCD.
Even if the project could not produce that amount of power due to water shortage, at least some amount could have been produced if the Khuga project has at least tried.
Since no effort was made the inner lighting arrangement was made by the use of solar power after a request was made to the Science and Technology department.
At least 30 solar lamps have been used to light up the campus of the Khuga project.
Even the IRB Post inside its campus has also been lighted up by the solar lamps, said H Imocha, Commissioner, Science and Technology.
He further went on to say that the commitment to produce power by the Khuga Project is not the concern of IFCD.
It is the responsibility of the PWD.
The reasons for its failure to produce power can be best answered by the PWD.
A 400 megawatt project has also been taken up at Gelnem village in IT road.
It is just a matter seconds to provide power to the village.
But unfortunately the Power Department has still not yet installed electric wires for the purpose.
The delay is highly regretted, he said.
