MGNREGS job card holders resume work after 2 years

MGNREGS card holders of Komdompokpi Gram Panchayat ward number 1 to 8 resumed work today after two years which was halted following a case filed by two Jila Parishad Members.
The work for mending the Mekola ground under the first phase of the 2011-2012 started today with around 2300 job card holders taking part.
The job card holders, present at the work site, expressed happiness on being given their rights back.
Imphal West BDO, S Shyamkumar, speaking to reporters said that the government had allotted 50% of the MGNREGS works to panchayats and 25% each to Jila Parishads and Line departments to ease the tension among the Panchayats and Jila Parishads.
But unfortunately two Members of Jila Parishad had filed a case to the Gauhati High Court claiming that the works of Line department should be given to Jila Parishad.

As a consequence the work came to a halt for the last two years.
He further went on to say that since no work has been done during these two years, no wages for the job card holders have been released.
Only the government can come up with a solution regarding this particular problem.
The officials concerned has no say in this regard.
And since the case has been won by the state government, the work for mending the Mekola ground under the first phase of the 2011-2012 has been started today.
MLA of Naoriya Pakhang Lakpa Kendra, RK Anand, also visited the work site and shared his happiness with the job card holders on getting their rights back.
He said that the rights of the job card holders were curtailed for two years due to the case.
Their wages for these two years cannot be just taken away.
It will be considered as a gross violation of the MGNREGS Act.
The government and the officials concerned should take this matter seriously.
He also enquired on the whereabouts of the amount earmark for the financial years 2009-10 and 2010-11 .
