The State level Teachers' Day celebration organised by Education Department (S) was held at its office complex at Lamphelpat today.
Education Minister L Jayantakumar Singh was the chief guest of the function.
Manipur Pollution Control Board Chairman Dr E Dwijamani Singh, Education (S) Commissioner VK Dewangan and Professor of Manipur University, W Nabakumar were also present in the function.
Arts Graduate teacher of Rengkai Government High School, Sangzalun, Headmaster in-charge of Tengnoupal Government High School, Ch Sumsochung Aimol, Headmaster in-charge of Thoubal Leitanthem Kanhai Junior High School, Ch Jarma Singh, Science Graduate teacher of Gokul Junior High School, Ch Ibopishak, Lecturer of Ibotonsana Girls' Higher Secondary School, Ng Kesho Singh, Principal of TG Higher Secondary School, K Sumati Devi, Headmistress in-charge of Bhairodan Maxwell Hindi Primary School, Kh Sunita Devi, Primary teacher of Hiyanglam Junior High School, E Gouramohon Singh, Headmaster in-charge of Kakching Makha High School, Y Shamu Singh and Headmistress of Wangkhei High School, M Gambhini Devi were feted with State Teachers' Awards 2010 which carry a cash Rs 5000 and a shawl each in the function.
Schools which have produced top ten position holders in HSLC examination 2010 and schools which have produced top three position holders in all the three streams of HSSLC examinations were also feted.
Speaking at the occasion, Education Minister L Jayantakumar expressed concern over the rising trend of serving monetary demands to educational institutions by UG groups.
Saying that students are the future pillars of the society, the Minister urged the concerned not to demand for their percentage from the schemes like Mid-day meal.
He also urged not to disturb the academic atmosphere of the educational institutions and make education a 'free zone'.
The Minister also called on the teachers of the State to discharge their duties honestly and spread knowledge to students with a sacrificial spirit.
Commissioner VK Dewangan informed the gathering that the 'in-charge system' would be abolished by holding a DPC of teachers in January next year.
Urging the teachers not to get disturbed by trivial matters, he added, the Department would also bring out a seniority list of teachers soon.
Prof W Nabakumar said that human resource must be enhanced in order to bring development in the State.
