Imphal, January 03 2023:
Tribal Affairs and Hills Minister Letpao Haokip has clarified that the ADC election has been delayed as certain modifications are necessary on account of the creation of more districts in the State.
Speaking to The Sangai Express yesterday, Letpao Haokip said that the State Government led by Chief Minister N Biren has no intention to postpone the ADC election indefinitely.
A number of controversies and overlappings emerged in the course of delimitation of ADC constituencies.
Currently, maximum efforts are being invested to resolve these controversies and overlappings, Letpao said.
Some areas of Chandel were found incorporated in Tengnoupal district just as certain areas of Tamenglong were found listed under Noney in the course of the delimitation exercise.
Similar cases of overlapping or contested areas were detected in other districts too, he said.
Moreh was earlier a part of Chandel district but it came under Tengnoupal after the creation of new districts.
As such, there is a dispute whether Moreh ADC should come under Chandel or Tengnoupal, Letpao continued.
At the insistence of some ex-Members, many areas were found listed under wrong districts.
Now due process is underway to correct all these errors, he said.
Letpao informed that maximum efforts are being put in to complete the delimitation process within the next couple of days.
Once the delimitation process is completed, the State Government would publish a gazette notification.
After the gazette notification is published, there would be a gap of 45 working days before the ADC election is held, the TA& H Minister.
The CM has already instructed the authorities concerned to complete the delimitation process as soon as possible, he conveyed.
Even though it is said that each district should have 24 ADCs, there cannot be more than 12/13 ADCs in some districts like Pherzawl which have lesser population.
There would be no problem in forming 24 ADCs in districts like Churachandpur, Kangpokpi and Senapati, he added.
