Many extend greetings on Gaan Ngai

Governor La Ganesan, chief minister N Biren Singh, ministers and various civil society organisations have conveyed their warm and best wishes to the people of Manipur, especially to the Kabui/Zeliangrong community on the occasion of Gaan Ngai festival, which will be celebrated on Wednesday.
In his message, La Ganesan said that Zeliangrong community celebrates the "Gaan Ngai" for paying obeisance and homage to the departed souls as well as for bidding adieu to the old year and heralding a New Year, full of hope and aspiration.
"I am also happy to know that one positive development over the years is that the festival along with its religious fervour has become a major cultural event of not only the Zeliangrong community but of other communities as well," the Governor said.
On the other-hand, CM N Biren said that Gaan-Ngai, the biggest cultural and religious post-harvest festival of the Zeliangrong community, marks the end of the year when the farmers have stored their food grain in their granaries.
The festival also marks the heralding of the New Year and new fire is produced by rubbing of dry wood and split bamboos and distributed to every household, Biren said, adding that, during the festival, the community shows their gratitude, with offerings to the Almighty for the good harvest and prayer for a better and prosperous life in the coming year.
The Governor as well as the chief minister wished the people happiness and also spread the message of unity, peace and brotherhood amongst all communities Meanwhile, ministers Nemcha Kipgen, Th Basanta Kumar Singh, Yumnam Khemchand, and Awangbow Newmai; Manipur Legislative Assembly speaker Th Satyabrata; United Committee Manipur (UCM); National Identity Protection Council (NIPCO); and Federation of Civil Society Organisation (FOCS) also extended their warm and best wishes to the people of Manipur on the occasion of Gaan Ngai.
They wished the people of the state peace, prosperity and growth towards develop with the celebration of the Festival.
