Two gun runners were apprehended by a combined team of Imphal East and Bishnupur district commandos from Bashikhong at around 11.45 last night along ammunition, hand grenades and detonators.
The arms and ammunition were meant for supply to Dimasa militants operating at Karbi Anglong of Assam.
The gun runners were apprehended during an operation conducted by the combined force on receiving a specific tip off, said Bishnupur SDPO Ishak Shah.
The apprehended arms suppliers are identified as Athokpam Tonsing alias Tejbarta (50) of Singjamei Wangma Kongba road and Meitei alias Pari (48) of Bashikhong Panthoibi Bazar.
Moreover, a red coloured Maruti van (MN1K-4279) used by the duo has also been seized.
On questioning, the two disclosed that the arms and ammunition were brought from Chandel and were meant for supply to the Dimasa militants operating in Karbi Anglong.
The items seized from the duo include two hand grenade, nine detonators, 94 rounds of 9 mm calibre, two rounds of .38 and two Nokia handsets, conveyed the SDPO.
