Imphal, March 02:
With the State Government unable to implement the Rural Employment Generation Programme, the scheme has slackened in Manipur, said Khadi and Village Industries Board Secretary N Brojendro.
Brojendro was speaking as chief guest at the closing function of the district level REGP Exhibition at Hapta Kangjeibung today.
He observed that the REGP would be a boon for many families of the State provided the scheme is implemented properly.
While informing that benefits of the REGP may be availed through the KVIB, Brojendro decried that many beneficiaries do not have the intention to repay loans.
Due to strong pressure from several sections, the KVIC and the KVIB are unable to select beneficiaries who would repay loan amounts.
As such, the scheme cannot be implemented in full and properly in the State, he lamented.
The closing function of the exhibition was also attended by KVIC General Manager T Rajen as president and M Geetchandra of the All Manipur Entrepreneurs' Association as guest of honour.
T Rajen asserted that one of the most important tool to solve the many social problems is to provide jobs to rural people.
He observed that absence of proper banking infrastructure and lack of awareness on the part of the people also contributed to slackening of the REGP.
