Artisans sensitised on handloom, handicraft schemes

Under the Ambedkar Hastashilpa Vikash Yojana Scheme for Handicrafts Artisans, Handicrafts Service Centre organised a seminar/workshop on sensitisation of the schemes of Deputy Commissioner (Handicrafts) in cluster activities at ICM Lamphel on Friday.
Addressing as chief guest of the seminar sponsored by office of Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), handloom and textiles director K Lamlee Kamei state that though they have been taking vital role in maintaining households, women artisans need to strive for becoming entrepreneurs by not simply doing their own work but also generating jobs for others.
While pointing out that handloom and handicrafts has great potential to help boost the state's economy, he also informed rJhat the government has been trying to create a market for handloom and handicrafts produced by local artisans.
Lamlee observed that people nowadays prefer purchase of products through online.
Moreover, as Amazon shopping app had requested to sell local handjoom and handicraft products, the government is trying to sell the products online by signing an agreement with Amazon.
Artisans could sell more products if they could expand the market, he continued.
Office of the Development Commissioner, Handicrafts assistant director A Jagyashwori said that the workshop will make the artisans aware about benefits of e-commerce/gem portal, Mudra loan and Deputy Commissioner (Handicrafts) welfare activities.
She urged the artisans to take benefit of the training and become successful entrepreneurs.
Among others, the workshop was attended by Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) retired handicrafts promotion officer Ch Mani and 50 artisans from different clusters.
