Gunmen attack Cong worker in Ml, house in Lamlai

Unknown assailants allegedly attacked a Congress worker in Mayang Imphal Bengoon area on Thursday around 7.30 pm using guns.
The victim Congress worker Md Altaf Hussain told media persons that some unknown persons suspected to be BJP workers fired shots when he was discussing election related matters with a family in Bengoon Loukok on Thursday night.
Luckily, nobody was injured in the incident.
On getting the information, a team of Mayang Imphal PS came and escorted him up to Uchiwa Wangbai.
Later, he went to Bengoon Salamat area to attend a poll campaign.
As soon as he crossed the market area, some 6/7 well-armed unknown persons tried to stop him.
However, he sped up and the goons fired shots towards his car.
Though he was not injured, the rear side of his car got damaged in the attack.
Decrying the armed attack, he said that the present government should take responsibility for the deteriorating law and order situation and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits.
He also called the government's claim of improved law and order situation as a dubious claim aimed at garnering votes.
He also condemned the government for arresting civilians for simply raising objections against the conduct of the ruling MLAs and ministers.
In what could be another election-related violence, unidentified gunmen reportedly fired towards a house at Napetpalli Maning Leikai under Lamlai assembly constituency in Imphal East district but there is no report of casualty.
The incident happened on Thursday at about 8.30 pm at the residential gate of Napetpalli Village Managing Committee secretary Sagolsem Lakpati.
The unidentified gunmen fired two rounds at Lakpati's residential gate.
Two empty cartridges and magazine of a handgun containing five rounds were recovered from the spot.
Immediately after the incident, a police team led by Lamlai SDPO and OC rushed to the spot and started investigation after registering an FIR.
Regarding the incident, Lakpati said that he has no enmity with anyone and appealed to the involved individual/ group to clarify about the firing in populated area.
Meanwhile, a sit-in-protest against the firing at Lakpati's residential gate was held on Friday at the local community hall and demanded immediate booking of those involved in firing in residential area.
Later, local leaders declared no outsiders will be allowed to enter Napetpalli after 6pm as precautionary measure to prevent such incident in future.
