Imphal, December 24 2021:
Several former Corporators have urged the State Government to either consider holding an election or elect a Board of Administrators (BOAs) of Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) on or before December 30 and warned of launching an agitation if the ultimatum is not heeded.
Speaking to the media at IMC office complex on behalf of the Corporators, former Corporator of IMC Ward no 3, Hijam Nutanchandra said that the corporation was dissolved on June 14, 2021 on expiry of its term and one officer appointed as its administrator.
Saying that the appointment of the administrator is against the Manipur Municipalities Act 1994, he added that an administrator also cannot run a corporation for more than six months as per the norm.
He then urged the State Government to either hold an IMC election or elect its Board of Administrators (BOAs) to run the Corporation.
Nutanchandra said that Corporators had submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister N Biren Singh to elect the BOAs on two different occasions.
