Water pump sets distributed to Tengnoupal farmers

Kakching, January 08 2022: Under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) 1st Instalment Central Share 2021-2022, the District Horticulture Office, Tengnoupal distributed water pump set, sprinkler set and irrigation accessories to select farmers of Tengnoupal district on Saturday.

Distribution of water pump set to 20 farmers of the district was held at the hall of Weaker Section Development Council located at Khangshim village with DC Tengnoupal Lourembam Bikram as chiefnguest, Weaker Section Development Council, Khangshim treasurer Khaling Toshang as president and District Horticulture Officer Tengnoupal Mutum Nabachandra as guest of honour.

In his speech at the function, DC Tengnoupal L Bikram said that paddy fields of the state remain barren after harvesting paddy.

Though plantation of winter crops is suitable on paddy fields farmers of the state do not take up this plantation due to lack of water.

Providing water to paddy fields for winter crop plantation could be done in many ways and construction of large dam alone is not the solution.

If the paddy field is in the valley area, a small pond could be dug to conserve rain water and small dam could be built if paddy field is in the hills to conserve water from gorges, he said, adding that water pumps are being distributed to farmers for this purpose.

Even if there is scanty water, drip irrigation system could be applied, he said and appealed to farmers to plant crops which could be highly profitable and easily transportable.

During the function, DHO Tengnoupal Mutum Nabachandra said that Tengnoupal district received 65 irrigation water pump sets and irrigation accessories under PMKSY for the year 2019-2020 and 37 sets had already been distribut ed in the past.

The remaining pump sets are being distributed along with 27 out of 45 sets sanctioned for the year 2021-2022, he added.

The officer also said that fermented bamboo shoot locally known as Soibum is being recommended under One Crop one District scheme and a bigger project under this scheme will be taken up at Khongkhang.
