Van Mahotsav: Tree plantation drive continues across State

A mass tree plantation drive was organised by the NSS Unit-I & II of Asufii Christian Institute, Mao in observance of Van Mahotsav today.
L Dikho, Minister PHE, Printing & Stationery, Government of Manipur; flagged offthe mass plantation in the presence of NG Mary Saza, PO, NSS Unit-I and Ashikho Eloziia, PO, NSS Unit-II, along with the NSS Volunteers and few Staff of ACL.
The volunteers covered more than 10 kms from Asufii to Chiiherii, Punanamei, planting about 1650 Cherry tree saplings, donated by the Minister.
Speaking at the occasion, L Dikho said that there is no loss in spending, to preserve and conserve the environment.
The Minister also expressed his gratitude to NG Mary Sazaand and all the volunteers for initiating the plantation and reiterated that every youth in the neighbouring villages ought to emulate the good work to save the environment in the region.
Likewise, in observance of 'Van Mahotsav', National Service Scheme of Don Bosco College (Autonomous) Maram has initiated a week-long celebration in off-line and online mode through varied activities to conserve the environment.
During its week-long celebration, various competitions were organised by NSS including slogan writing, poster making, drawing, poetry and essay writing.
On the second day, the students in their own respective villages carried out a door-to-door awareness programme on preserving the forest and dry & wet garbage segregation for scientific disposal of waste to keep their village clean and sanitized.
On the third day, a Mega tree plantation drive was conducted where Fr Sebastian Jose the rector, Fr KO Sebastian the principal, Fr Joseph the administrator, Fr Shilanada and Sr Flora Kujur the vice principals, NSS programme officers, teaching and non-teaching staff, NSS volunteer and students planted more than 200 saplings in and around the college campus and in the adopted villages of NSS.
NSS also extended their gratitude to D John Sha, MFS, DFO, Senapati District for providing the tree saplings and encouraging students to plant more trees.
Meanwhile, Thoubal Forest Division and Tekcham Village Development Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd also carried out a mass tree plantation along the road from Tekcham to Irengban as a part of the 'Van Mahotsav' observance.
It was participated by Thoubal Forest Division DFO, Th Lokendro; Tekcham Gram Panchayat Pradhan, L Iboyaima; Thoubal RO, S Samungou; Mayai Keithel BO, N Dhananjoy; Yairipok BO, M Biren; Heirok BO, L Boby; Thoubal Wildlife Warden, W Ramchandra and volunteer of local clubs.
Similarly, Tengnoupal Forest Division also observed.
Van Mahotsav by carrying out a mass tree plantation drive at H Langcham village along the Indo-Myanmar border in Moreh.
It was participated by Th Vikramjit, SP Tengnoupal; Sumit Sood, CO 43 Assam rifles Moreh; Mahamuda Begum, (MFS) Deputy Conservator of Forest, Tengnoupal Forest Division; K Jadumani, ADC Moreh and Lenminlen Haokip, chief H Langcham village.
