UCM celebrates, vows to fight divisive policy

United Committee Manipur (UCM) celebrated its 21st foundation Day on Saturday.
Delivering the key note address of the event, UCM secretary general Ng Deba Meetei recalled the formation of UCM and said that people rose up against the Bangkok agreement signed between Government of India and NSCN (IM) on June 14, 2001 and 18 people sacrificed their lives for the cause of protecting the territorial integrity of Manipur during the agitation on June 18, 2001.Later, CSOs of the state formed an apex body named United Committee Manipur on July 3, 2001 to carry forward the public movement, he recounted.
Pointing out that UCM along with the people has been protecting the integrity and territorial boundary of Manipur, Deba said that the Committee will continue to stand for the protection of territorial integrity of Manipur.
Finding a solution between Government of India and NSCN (IM) is a welcoming step.
However, UCM will not remain idle if Manipur's unity and integrity is compromised, he made it clear.
In his address, UCM president Joychandra Konthoujam said that the apex body will stand firm and fight against the alleged divisive policy of the government of India saying it is trying to disturb the peace and harmony among the various ethnic communities living in in Manipur.
He also urged the people to be cautious and stand together for Manipur.
Among others, the celebration was also attended by UCM consultative members H Ibotombi Khuman and L Jadu as presidium members.
