Dept of Taxes conducts raids, checks E-way bills

Department of Taxes has been conducting raids in warehouses along with intercepting and inspecting transport vehicles for verification of documents and inspection of goods to check illegal holding and movement of illegal goods in connection with the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly Election, 2022 .
In a release, Department of Taxes informed that raids have been conducted at various warehouses to check illegal holding of goods and freebies for distribution during the assembly election.
During raids at three warehouses namely, Ram Nath Store at Thangal Bazar, Shree Shyam Steels at Thangal Bazar and Steel Trading Corporation at Mantripukhri, goods were found being kept with no proper records and documents.
The department has taken necessary action to verify the documents and records and further show cause notices have been served to ascertain the value of goods illegally being stored if any in the godowns, it stated.
The release continued that it is also monitoring the movement of goods carrying vehicles on all the national highways regularly to verify the E-way bills and the documents.
On Tuesday, flying squad team of the department checked 23 vehicles on the National Highway 39 during which four vehicles were found carrying goods illegally and without proper documents.
The vehicles detained at the department headquarters at Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT), Khuman Lampak for physical verification and penalties have been imposed on the defaulting vehicles.
The department has been re-enforcing regular enforcement work by conducting regular raids at warehouses to check and identify types of freebies along with regular checking of goods vehicles on the national highways to verify the illegal movement of goods at the instruction of Election Commission of India (ECI) in view of the upcoming state assembly election, it added.
