Imphal, December 24 2021:
Three out of four samples of COVID-19 patients, who had recently taken international travel, sent for Whole Genome Sequencing at IBSD have returned 'negative' for Omicron variant while result is awaited for one sample.
Dr K Rajo Singh, Director, Health Services, said this in a press release issued today and added that 462 international travellers arriving at Imphal have been put on surveillance.
They are all being tested by RT-PCR on the 8th day of their arrival.
155 out of the 462 have completed their 14 days surveillance with all of them testing negative for COVID-19, while 194 new samples were tested on completion of their 8th day.
4 samples out of the 194 were found to be COVID-19 positive.
113 travellers are yet to complete their 8 day mandatory wait time to get tested for COVID-19 with RT-PCR.
If any samples are found positive, the samples will be further sent for Genome sequencing to check the variant of the virus, he added in the press release.
Dr K Rajo Singh further appealed the public to adhere to Covid appropriate behaviour and wear masks mandatorily as masks have been found effective against all variants of COVID-19 .
