MEELAL celebrates 8th foundation anniversary

Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillon (MEELAL) celebrated its 8th foundation anniversary at Manipur Press Club here today with Naoriya Pakhanglakpa AC MLA RK Anand and MEELAL president Moirangthem Naodalenkhomba as the chief guest and functional president respectively.
Release of the indigenous script proponents' 4th edition souvenir and calls for continuous contribution from every section of the society to promote and popularise its revival marked the anniversary celebration.
In his address as one of the guests of honour, MEELAL advisor Tomba Singh observed that while there may be many individuals including academicians, politicians or student groups pledging to protect and uphold interest of the Manipuri society, promoting the indigenous script is limited to a few individuals.
There are more than 400 private schools in the state but not a single institution has an established library for Meetei Meitei, he rued and suggested that every district headquarters ensure Meetei Mayek library facility under the patronage of the MLA concerned.
As another guest of honour, AMWJU president A Mobi stressed on the need for coordinated growth and promotion of script and language.
While expressing that Meetei Mayek has indeed developed to a certain extent ever since Meelal intensely initiated its promotion as a school curriculum, Mobi observed that the State language seems to be lagging behind for only about 12 lakh population out of the State's total of over 26 lakhs communicate in Manipuri.
Among others Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur's Secretary Dr Hamom Naba, ISTV programme officer BK Meetei and Meetei Mayek Expert Committee member Ng Kangjia also strongly advocated on the need for sustaining the momentum of promoting the indigenous script.
