Imphal, December 12 2021: Former rebel leader RK Sanayaima has remarked that Nupi Lan is a phenomenon which is encountered by the women-folk of Manipuri society everyday.

RK Sanayaima made this remark after offering floral tributes at the Nupi Lan Memorial Complex here this afternoon.

He said that womenfolk have been fighting multiple battles everyday at domestic as well as community level.

He then paid homage and obeisance to the womenfolk who fought and have been fighting against myriad issues in the past and present as well.

Since Manipur was merged into the Indian Union in 1949, the former has been depending on the latter in every aspect.

Manipuri people have been depending on India for all the daily requirements starting from the smallest objects, Sanayaima said.

Even though it looks like the Government of India has been doling out the State's annual budgets with benevolence, the reality is otherwise because all the money doled out by the Government of India went back to India as Manipur is totally dependent on goods and commodities imported from India, he said.

Moreover, the State's own agricultural and forest resources are being drained out to India.

Further, a number of banking and non-banking financial institutions of India which have their offices in Manipur have been collecting hundreds of crores of rupees in the form of deposits every year.

It is a very tiny fraction of this amount which is re-invested in the State, the former rebel leader remarked.

He compared the State's economy to a pipe which is hollow at both ends.

Construction activities seen at Imphal city look alluring but when one goes a little distance away from Imphal city, the State looks very backward, he remarked.

Although it appears that the people of Manipur are given the choice to import Chinese products, the Government of India again prohibits transportation of Chinese products.

Except for commodities produced in Myanmar, no other international products are included in the list of border trade.

"Under such circumstances, our people must work harder and groom a healthy work culture if we must liberate our economy", Sanayaima asserted.

Rich people of the State should invest in different sectors and they must work to bring investors from outside the State, if necessary, he continued.

According to the former rebel leader, Myanmar wrote a letter to the Government of India in 1998 to take back Kabow Valley on lease but India rejected the offer because the Government of India did not want to open Manipur to Myanmar and other South East Asian countries.

Later, the Government of India formulated its Look East Policy (now Act East Policy) but one would like to question how sincere is New Delhi regarding its own Act East Policy, Sanayaima said.

The Oting massacre should be viewed with utmost seriousness and it is a stark reminder that the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act must go, he asserted.

"When I was the Chairman of UNLF, Indian military personnel who were going in civilian fatigue with their family members were never attacked", he said.

Regarding Th Brinda's preparation to contest the forthcoming State Assembly election, Sanayaima said that Brinda has chosen a separate politics.

"Two separate politics cannot be merged or seen as one just because Brinda is my daughter-in-law.

If any follower or supporter of Brinda is using my name, it would be better if they refrain from doing so", Sanayaima said.

He then appealed to all media houses not to take his name when covering political activities of Th Brinda and also to refrain from making any connection.
