Imphal, December 12 2019:
The Manipur State Council (Government-in-exile) has called upon the people of Manipur to inform and explain the historical facts about Manipur to the Government of India.
A statement issued by MSC Minister of Foreign Affairs and Defence Narengbam Samarjit claimed that the election held in 1946 in all provinces of the British India including Assam province did not cover Manipur.
Manipur was left out from the particular election as Manipur was not a colonial province of the British Empire but a Princely State.
This was testified indisputably when Lamyanba Irabot contested the election in Assam province.
It also testified that Manipur State was never a British colony, Samarjit said.
The Government of India has little knowledge about these historical facts of Manipur because no subject of the British colony was entrusted any official work related to Princely States.
All official works of Princely States were handled by Britons.
As such, the Government of India does not have much official documents about Manipur State but all official and historical documents of Manipur are available with the British Government, Samarjit asserted.
If the Government of India operates Inner Line Permit in Manipur, then it implies that the Indian leaders do not have thorough knowledge about the Acts, laws and orders which were enacted during the British colonial period and are still in force.
At the same time, if the people of Manipur accept operation of Inner Line Permit, it implies that the Government of India has been given a free hand to run all affairs of Manipur, Samarjit continued.
He then claimed that Manipur State had both Permit System and Passport System.
If Indians wished to visit Manipur, they had to obtain permits in the same manner they are doing now while visiting Nepal.
If people belonging to different nationalities other than India wish to visit Manipur, they must come with passports, he added.
